Internatrional experience

My academic exchange at Aalto University in Helsinki was an unforgettable experience, filled with academic, cultural and personal discoveries. Here is a detailed overview of my stay, including anecdotes, highlights and information on local activities and events. I arrived in Helsinki in August, greeted by a cool northern breeze and clear skies. From my first steps at the airport, I was impressed by the efficiency and modernity of Finnish infrastructure. The train ride to the Aalto University campus in Espoo was peaceful, with picturesque scenery of forests and lakes. Aalto University is renowned for its academic excellence, particularly in the fields of engineering, design and business. I have taken a variety of courses ranging from innovation management to environmental sustainability. The teachers were very accessible and encouraged open discussions, which allowed me to deepen my knowledge and develop critical thinking. One of the most impactful courses I took was “the new sustainable business”. We worked in international teams to design environmentally friendly products. This project not only taught me technical skills but also allowed me to build strong bonds with my classmates. Outside of class, life in Helsinki offered many activities. Finns have a passion for saunas, and I quickly adopted this tradition. The Löyly, a modern sauna located by the Baltic Sea, has become one of my favorite places. Going from the hot sauna to a quick swim in ice-cold water is an invigorating experience that I recommend to everyone. Aalto University also organizes many social and cultural events. One of the highlights of my stay was the celebration of Vappu, the May Day holiday. It's a Finnish student tradition where the streets are filled with young people wearing colorful jumpsuits and participating in festive activities. I attended the Havis Amanda statue washing ceremony and the many concerts and parties that followed. The academic standard at Aalto is high and the expectations of teachers are ambitious. Classes are intensive, with a mix of exams, projects and presentations. I particularly appreciated the practical approach to teaching, which allowed me to apply the theories learned in class to real-life situations. The university's facilities are state-of-the-art, with well-equipped laboratories and modern workspaces. The Harald Herlin Learning Center Library is a fantastic place to study, with quiet zones, group rooms and advanced technological equipment. I loved exploring its different neighborhoods, each with its own charm. The Hakaniemi Indoor Market is a great place to discover Finnish specialties, like karjalanpiirakka (a type of pastry) and fresh salmon. Public transportation is extremely reliable, making getting around the city very easy. I often took the trolley to downtown, where I enjoyed walking along the plaza and visiting the Design District. Conclusion My exchange at Aalto University was an enriching experience on all levels. Not only did I acquire academic and professional skills, but I also discovered a rich and welcoming culture. The friendships I formed and the memories I made will stay with me forever. I highly recommend Aalto University and Helsinki to anyone
