Villes Marocaines et Migrations

Villes Marocaines et Migrations

What is "Villes Marocaines et Migrations" ?

"Urban Moroccan Cities and Migrations" is a research and cooperation project funded by HES-SO and MESRI. This initiative signifies a well-organized and equitable partnership between two research units: the Urban and Regional Planning community of the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (CEAT-ENAC-EPFL), and the African Cities in Transition initiative of the Center for Global Studies at The International University of Rabat (ACT-CGS-UIR). Founded on an Interdisciplinary Approach to Understanding Urban Migration Dynamics, this collaboration illustrates a shared vision and mutual commitment between the two institutions.

The project embodies the commitment of CEAT-EPFL and CGS-UIR to addressing global challenges collaboratively, strengthening international ties, and enhancing local and global relations. It is structured as an interdisciplinary project, emphasizing an equitable and integrated approach involving various disciplines such as geography, urban planning, sociology, economics, and political science.

The project explores the interactions between urbanization and urban migration movements, with the ambition of enhancing a network of specialists in urban migration management in Africa. It promotes dialogue and collaboration among researchers with similar interests to better understand and address the complex challenges associated with urban migration. These interdisciplinary partnerships allow for the analysis of actors' strategies, including migrants' spatial appropriation, their responses to urban governance, and their spatial integration strategies within the city.
Dr. Jérôme Chenal from CEAT and Dr. Nawal Benabdallah from CGS lead the coordination and scientific oversight of the project.
