UIR participation in the SOLAR DECATHLON AFRICA

A real crossroads of innovation and creativity in the field of sustainable construction, the Solar Decathlon Africa is an international student competition that challenges interdisciplinary teams to design and build self-sufficient houses powered exclusively by solar energy.  Launched on 13 September 2019 in Ben Guérir, this competition has so far attracted nearly 1,000 students.

Among the 18 teams selected, Afrikataterre is an international consortium bringing together students from the Rabat School of Architecture, the Ecole Supérieure d'Ingénierie de l'Energie, the Faculty of Digital Technoloy and Computer Science, the Universities of Germany and Senegal, in addition to teams from the LERMA-UIR Laboratory.

Aware of the challenges Africa faces with urban sprawl, the Consortium is working to develop a resilient module capable of adapting to a wide range of climatic contexts present in Africa and to propose a methodological solution based on a prototype of a sustainable and environmentally friendly mid-range housing unit.
