The "Cultures, Societies and Religious Facts" chair, inaugurated
under the direction of Professor Farid El Asri in 2016, is pleased to announce the
the organization of its fourth Leçon de la Chaire, revolving around the
notion of ḥayra (or "perplexity") in the thought of Ibn ʿArabī and his
predecessors, and its use in the fields of epistemology, metaphysics
metaphysics and Qur'anic hermeneutics.

As a reminder, the theme of this year's Lessons from the Chair is the representation
of the sources of Islam, highlighting the Koranic text, the image of the
Prophet of Islam in its representations and interpretations, and the narrative
narrative legacies from different perspectives of the Quranic text and the
of the Prophet of Islam. Particular emphasis will be placed on Eastern and Western
Eastern and Western contributions on these subjects from the Middle Ages

This presentation will be the subject of a lecture given by Professor
Gregory Vandamme, Islamologist, Doctor of Religious Sciences at UCL, and specialist
specialist in classical Sufi thought, and in particular the work of Ibn ʿArabī
of Ibn ʿArabī and his commentators, entitled "
Reading the Koran in "Muḥammadian".: perplexity (ḥayra) in Ibn ʿArabī's hermeneutics.
